“How to pack for college?” and “What should I take?” are a little bit nerve-wracking questions when you are about to graduate from high school. It’s almost time for you to start your journey as a student. Making up a college packing list is a perfect way to alleviate all that stress you’ve been feeling.
In the very near future, you will be packing your bags for college. The list of things you need to get seems daunting, doesn’t it? Luckily for you, we know exactly what you should and shouldn’t bring to college.
Purchasing essential stuff that you’ll definitely need all year is the key to your preparation. Ordinary packing lists are quite helpful, but only to an extent (you definitely know you need to buy bed sheets and a pillow). But there exist all the other necessary things you are so easy to forget. For example, you will likely find yourself needing an umbrella or a sewing kit. Make sure you have everything you need for a college.
- Clothes and shoes
- Enough for you to cover a week of casual wear to go to class in (for every season).
- A couple of additional outfits of “nicer” clothes for more formal occasions.
- A set of workout clothes.
- Clothes hangers.
- Bed Linens and laundry supplies
- Towels and washcloths
- Toiletries
- A shower caddy (especially if you use a communal bathroom).
- Take whatever you need in a mesh bag take your personal hygiene items back and forth with you (for this purpose, a bag is just more comfortable than a caddy): toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, etc.
- Shower shoes.
- First-aid kit and pain relievers
- Laptop, smartphone (functions as a phone, a planner, a communication device, an alarm clock, a quick research tool) and the chargers + printer (optional)
- Head-/earphones (in order not to disturb your roommate)
- School supplies (paper, notebooks, pens (multiple colors), pencils + textbooks if needed)
- Fan and hair dryer
- Bedside or desk lamp
- Sewing kit, safety pins, scissors
- Household and kitchen items
- Umbrella and raincoat
- Backpack and handbags
Well, sadly, the list of things can grow long for a fresher who has never stepped foot in a pretty small dorm room, and sometimes with drastic consequences. Furthermore, you might not have a whole lot of room space in there. Beyond that, you’ll have a roommate as well, which makes it even tighter. That’s why you don’t need to bring to college:
- Household appliances which the vast majority of dorms have already supplied.
- More than two bowls, two plates, two sets of silverware.
- Pets
- Ironing board
- Duplicate items (anything your roommate has already brought)
- Oversized luggage
- Big and bulky stuff
Just go minimal. Don’t overload at the very beginning. Be prepared on the list of the right things to bring to college. You can buy more stuff later on if you find that you do need something. Anyway, adapt this list to suit your own situation.
